American Airlines is on the verge of a significant upgrade to its long-haul flights. Starting in June, passengers on select international routes can experience the new Business Class, dubbed ‘Flagship Suites’. They can furthermore expect a refined Premium Economy cabin. This introduction promises a considerable improvement in onboard comfort and privacy.
The most striking innovation is undoubtedly the Flagship Suite. With this completely redesigned Business Class, American Airlines is finally adding sliding doors to each suite. The design allows travellers to enjoy more privacy during their flight, as on many other airlines. American Airlines furthermore added wireless charging of personal devices, many other airlines have this as well.
In the Premium Economy cabin, the changes are more subtle but certainly noticeable. Passengers can look forward to so-called ‘headrest wings’ on the headrests. This addition is designed to provide extra lateral privacy. Furthermore, American has given the entire Premium Economy cabin a fresh and modern design, contributing to a more relaxed atmosphere.
Rollout
The premiere of these new travel classes is reserved for the brand-new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners being added to the fleet. Starting June 5th, American Airlines will deploy the new configuration on its Chicago – London Heathrow route. Other important transatlantic connections will follow shortly thereafter. Ticket sales for these upgraded flights have already started last Monday.
The rollout of the Flagship Suites and the enhanced Premium Economy will be further expanded in the future. American Airlines will moreover add these cabins on its new Airbus A321XLR aircraft and the updated Boeing 777-300ER.
