China Airlines, Taiwan’s national carrier, has embarked on a significant fleet modernization initiative, committing to the acquisition of 24 wide-body aircraft from both Boeing and Airbus. This strategic move aims to replace aging aircraft and expand the airline’s long-haul capabilities.
Boeing 777X order
On May 8, 2025, China Airlines finalized an order with Boeing for 14 777X aircraft, comprising 10 777-9 passenger jets and four 777-8 freighters. Additionally, the airline secured options for five more 777-9s and four additional 777-8 freighters. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2029.
Airbus A350-1000 Order
In March 2025, China Airlines confirmed a firm order with Airbus for ten A350-1000 aircraft. These aircraft are intended to enhance the airline’s long-haul network, particularly on routes to North America and Europe. The A350-1000s will complement the existing fleet of A350-900s, ensuring operational efficiency and fleet commonality.
Boeing 787 Dreamliner order
Previously, in September 2022, China Airlines announced an order for 24 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, including 18 787-9s and six 787-10s. These aircraft are slated to replace the airline’s Airbus A330-300 fleet, with deliveries expected between 2026 and 2028. This comprehensive fleet renewal strategy underscores China Airlines’ commitment to modernizing its operations, enhancing fuel efficiency, and expanding its global reach.
