Last weekend, a serious accident with a Boeing 737 at Johannesburg-O.R. Tambo International Airport in South Africa left three aircraft maintenance technicians severely injured.
The incident involved a Bid Air Cargo Boeing 737-400 (registration ZS-TEY) that had been elevated on jacks inside a hangar. Preliminary reports suggest the aircraft slipped from the front jack. However, photographs indicate the jack itself may have collapsed while still supporting the plane. Tragically, the technicians working near the aircraft’s nose were reportedly pinned by the Boeing. Fellow workers immediately assisted their injured colleagues, who were subsequently hospitalized with serious injuries. The cause of the accident and the current condition of the injured men remain under investigation.

Airbus A350
Separately, last November, a fatal incident occurred at Helsinki Airport where an airport worker was crushed to death by a Finnair Airbus A350. Finnish police stated that they responded to the airport around 5:00 AM after receiving multiple calls about a deadly accident. Investigations revealed that the employee was trapped between the aircraft and a lavatory service vehicle during the aircraft’s pushback procedure. The circumstances surrounding this earlier incident are still being investigated.
