A KLM Boeing 737-800, registered as PH-BXN, quickly returned to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) shortly after its departure on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
The incident was due to a reported technical malfunction. The KLM aircraft was operating flight KL1511, en route to Barcelona (BCN). Suddenly, the flight crew encountered an issue with the flaps during the initial climb. As a precautionary measure, the pilots stabilised the aircraft at an altitude of 10,000 feet.
This allowed them valuable time to thoroughly review the relevant malfunction checklists. Following the completion of these procedures, the cockpit crew made the decision to return to Schiphol. The KLM Boeing 737 safely landed on runway 36R approximately one hour after its initial departure. No incidents occurred during the landing, and thankfully, no injuries were reported.
The affected passengers were subsequently transferred to a replacement aircraft, another Boeing 737-800 with the registration PH-BXY. This substitute flight eventually arrived at Barcelona Airport with an approximate delay of three hours.
A day prior
Intriguingly, the same aircraft, PH-BXN, had also returned to Amsterdam the day prior due to a similar issue involving the flaps. The aircraft has remained grounded at Schiphol since that earlier incident.
This raises questions about the nature and persistence of the technical problem affecting this particular Boeing 737-800. Aviation enthusiasts and industry experts will undoubtedly be following developments closely to understand the root cause and the timeline for the aircraft’s return to service.
