The defunct airline Flybe may be restarted under new ownership. British media reported on Monday that a former Flybe shareholder is taking possession of the regional airline. The flights may start again early next year.
Long-time financially troubled Flybe had to cease flight operations on March 5th after shareholders Cyrus Capital, Stobart Group, and Virgin Atlantic were no longer willing to put money into the company. The Coronavirus crisis ultimately turned out to be the deathblow.
Flybe is now owned by Thyme Opco. That company is largely owned by Lucien Farrell, who in turn heads the European arm of the American Cyrus Capital.
Flybe was previously the largest regional airline in Europe, mainly operating domestic flights in the United Kingdom. The company also operated various scheduled services from British cities to the European mainland.
Regardless, Flybe will be smaller than before at the restart, according to the leaked plans. Further details are not yet known at this time.
